National Tortilla Chip Day
Tortilla chips… salsas best friend. Today we celebrate national tortilla chip day and the chip that has made nachos great and appetizers at every Mexican restaurant.
The triangle shaped tortilla chip was made in the 40’s by an innovative lady named Rebecca Webb Carranza (we love you girl!) as a way to utilize rejected tortillas from the automated line at her and her husband’s restaurant and tortilla factory in LA. They sold for a dime a bag. In 1994, Carranza received the Golden Tortilla award for her contribution to the Mexican food industry.
Here’s to you Rebecca! Happy National Tortilla Chip Day !
